Awning Windows

 H2: Pros

H2: Better ventilation

Awning windows are a really good choice for your home as they can greatly improve the ventilation in it.  For example - you can to leave an awning window open even when it is raining as the design of the window allows cool air to come into the room while still keeping the elements out.

H2: Modern look

Awning windows are now a popular choice because they give houses a sleek and modern look with their minimalist style.  They also improve the lighting in homes and are very energy-efficient.

H2: Low cost

Another advantage of using awning windows is that they are much cheaper than other types of window, while still being of a high quality.  Awning windows are a good value and usually only cost between $320 and $550 each.

H2: Better materials

Awning windows come in many different types of materials and there is always something to suit your need.  Vinyl is a popular choice for awning windows as it is inexpensive and is insulted which makes it particularly energy-efficient.  Awning windows with steel or wood frames are often used but are a more expensive choice than other materials, although there are a lot of choices available with those frames as they can be customized easily.  Aluminium and fiberglass are also widely used, although they cannot be customized as much as wood or steel frames.

H2: Energy-efficient

It’s important to choose the right windows for your home as they can make a big difference to how energy-efficient it is.  An energy-efficient house is one that does not lose warm air and, as windows are usually a major source of heat loss, windows that do not allow much air to escape are far more energy-efficient than ones that do.

Awning windows are particularly energy-efficient as they provide good insulation and don’t allow much warm air to escape, unlike standard windows.  The insulation value of windows is measured by something called the “U-factor” which is used to express how good a window is at keeping a house warm in winter and cool in summer, and the lower the U-factor, the more effective the window is.  The U-factor of awning windows is usually between 0.17 and 0.18 which is extremely good.

H2: Security

Awning windows are also a good choice as they are more secure than traditional ones as there is less risk of someone breaking into a house through them due to their size and positioning in a home.  This means that they will let plenty of light and air into a house without there being as much risk involved.

Awning windows are ideal to use above sinks and so are an excellent choice for bathroom windows and they are a popular choice for bedrooms too.

H2: Versatile construction

One of the biggest advantages of awning windows is how versatile they are - they are available in many designs, shapes, and materials which makes them great for customizing to your need or style.  They have a flexible design which means that they can be customized with highly individual styles - such as decorations or patterns - that are often not possible with other types of window.

Awning windows can be made to fit into pretty much any room or area of the home and are available in a number of different materials.  Some of the materials that they are available in are:

Vinyl

Wood

Fiberglass

Fiberglass-clad

Impact-resistant

Architectural grade

H2: Cons

H2: Easy to run into

One of the major problems with awning windows is that they can be a hazard, especially if they have been installed in an area where there are a lot of people walking past as they are easy to walk into.  This could cause serious injury to the person who has collided with the window and also cause damage to the window itself.  Therefore, it’s a good idea to never install an awning window on a first-floor area where this could be a risk, or on areas such as patios, deck, or porches.

H2: Not suitable for emergency exits

Due to the design of awning windows, they are not suitable for use as a quick exit in an emergency situation such as a fire.  Therefore, if you plan to have awning windows in your home you should always make sure that there is an alternative escape route, even if it means installing another type of window as well.

H2: Difficult to clean

As awning windows open on a slant they can be difficult to clean as there are areas that are hard to reach.  This can make regular chores such as dusting harder than usual.

H2: Are awning windows better than sliders?

Sliding glass windows have long been a popular choice for homes as they are easy to use and durable and, compared to sliding glass doors, windows are opened by sliding the glass along a track.  They are often used in basements or areas that have quite short walls due to their horizontal design.

Sliding windows are much easier to use than windows that have to be opened or closed vertically as those types need handles or force to open them, whereas sliding windows do not.

Due to their simple and easy to use design, sliding windows often last much longer
